Exploitation Trailer Explosion!

Here's a bunch of independent trailers for some hardcore grindcore violence lovers out there. So far, my fave is "The Devil's Dick," which despite its low sound quality, made me crack up when the queen of the undead (?) shrieked "I want my dick!"

Destroying Angel

This is a painting I did a few years ago that I'm going to perform some Photoshop magic on (for my much-neglected portfolio). I'll post the results in a few days.

By the way: After Effects is super fuuuuuuuun. Yay!

After Effects: the Low Down

So we have to make a super-cool After Effects assignment for Barminski's Digital Media class, and I have no idea of what I want to do for it. I'm tired of going into these projects plan-less! Errr! In any case, I'll give you some of the links that he gave us.

Number One: the "pretty much entirely done in After Effects movie." Yes, I weep inside with my lack of idea-ness.

Numbers Two through Three: Tutorials. I haven't looked at these links yet, but if I run into any problems, I'll be sure to go running to either Tutorial One, or Tutorial Two.

On the upside, I wrote eight pages of my novel this weekend. Boo-yah!

A Weekend of (Yawn) Exposure Sheets

Still no sexy-cool pictures to post! This weekend all I did for my film was purchase manila folders (the better to organize my scenes with, my pretty!), and work on some more exposure sheets, or "x-sheets" for all the cool kids out there. I cannot think of something more tedious in the animation process than writing up exposure sheets, particularly when there is lip-flap nonsense to be concerned about.

Later tonight I'll be updating my website ('cause I have been fiddling with artwork and such in that department), and animating like a dog on fire (which I imagine would be particularly awkward and frustrating for the dog)!

Hope your three-day weekend was more exciting than mine.

Link to My Portfolio Site

As promised, here's the link My Portfolio Site to my new, super sexy portfolio site! I've made it all using Adobe programs - Flash, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. The art is rough and still needs a lot of tweaking (plus the quicktime movie files are frigging huge - unnecessarily so. Don't try to play them or you'll hate me!) I think that this is going to be the basic template for my portfolio, though. In fact, I'm contemplating buying a domain name, too!

Well, I'm off to draw naked people. Will they be old? Have lots of fascinating scars? Tell ribald stories? I love Friday class!

Oh, and in case you didn't know, you are finally allowed to post comments on my blog. I figured it out. I'm so drunk on happy this morning I'm going to have to wear a really cool sweatshirt to top it off.

Ciao!

New Portfolio Site

Finally! I've done the impossible, and managed to finish (a rough of) my new Flash website. I'll be putting up a link later tonight, but for now I just wanted to gloat like hell. Yay! Whooooo! Etcetera!

Now only one more midterm left for this week. Boy, am I super stoked.

My Weekend

It's Saturday night, and I'm visiting my father in Las Vegas (he's doing extremely well brain-wise, in case you were curious!). I spent all day working on my Flash midterm (which was pushed from last Thursday to this coming Thursday - blah), and then finished a background I've been working on for months - at least that's how it feels. It's missing three props, and a reflection caused by one of those props, but otherwise it's the baby I've been wanting, without any genetic defects. I made this background entirely in Photoshop, working extensively with the joy that is layers, and also imbibing in quite a few filters. Why? 'Cause filters are fun! Duh!

Now what will I do? I'm utterly exhausted with looking at glowing screens, and everyone else is asleep...well, I guess I'll work on my take-home midterm for my law class. Not terribly adventurous, exciting, or sexy. Oh well.

All work retains copyright by me, Michelle Lopes. Whoooo!

Oh, by the way, go check this out. It has nothing to do with animation, but the song cracks me up, as does the robot forced to contemplate its own dance moves on mere mortals (of course).

Jeremy Mayhew, Anyone?

Another amazingly fun video - this one featuring animation from Jeremy Mayhew for the ever-so-fun band, Man Man. This is the cut-out style of animation that I absolutely love - very cute, mildly creepy good times. I'm guessing it was done in Aftereffects. If anyone knows better, then let me know!

New Aqua Teen Hunger Force Trailer

I know that this film probably doesn't need any more publicity than it already has got (Evil news media getting hostile at the ATHF guys! Booo!), but I love Adult Swim, and I'm a huge gushing fan of this show, so here ya go. Enjoy.

Drawings from Last Friday

Here, as promised, are the drawings I did in class last Friday at the Natural History Museum. I'm getting better, but I think the Grey Wolves are probably the weakest of the lot (at that point I was really, really tired!). In the first drawing, you can see my instructor's corrections just above the skeleton of the sabre-toothed kitty.

Ah, I Can't!

I blogged a couple of days ago about a job that would've been really fun, but I came to my senses about it. Right now I need to finish my film, THEN I'll worry about assembling a portfolio. By the way, I need to find out what a flat book is, because evidently it's a form of portfolio submission (that is used in conjunction with Flash? Is somehow related to Flash?), and as an animator, I know that one's going to come up again.

Today I scanned some of my scenes in at school. Wheeeeee! It's so expensive to purchase a scanner that does animation paper sizes, it's just hateful on behalf of the scanner manufacturers. Why must they torment the starving artists? The hungry, seething masses want to make art...inexpensively, if possible.

Tomorrow I'm going to the museum again! Life rocks!
